So a little over 6 months ago we started up this company with a Indiegogo fund raiser. We wanted to create a new way of doing music and theatre here in Lane County. And with your help, we did it! We raised $3000 to get rolling, committing us to a fall season of wild theatre and music!
Our first thang was BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON. A little back story: 5 years ago, me and some of my best buds were pulling together a production of this great show when mr. cancer came knocking at my door and I had to cancel the damn thing. (tough to sing rock and roll in the middle of radiation treatment focused on your tonsil) Cut to 4 years later, and I'm all healthy and stuff, and many of my same friends joined in again committed to doing this thing. It's a pretty damn political play, with lots off punk emo music and we thought it would be timely to do it right before elections! So we made arrangements to do it at the COTTAGE GROVE ARMORY and cast the show and gathered an awesome band and rehearsed and plotted and made an amazing fun show that a bunch of you came and enjoyed.
Funny thing. Do political theatre and you are sometimes apt to get more timely than you planned.
BBAJ really resonated with the times and how they are a changing... like ouch.
So much so that we started thinking more about why we were doing all this theatre and music other than just the joy of doing it. More on that in a bit.
Our next show was our first FAVORITE ALBUM BAND concert. That's where the name of the company originally came from, and although it was our 2nd show, Favorite Album Band is the center of what we do. The idea is to treat rock and roll like classical music: hire in professional musicians and recreate classic albums LIVE in a concert setting. We work to capture the sound and feel of these great albums we grew up with, and do them in venues that allow you to focus on the music.
THE DOORS debut album was our first and it was a rockin great time! Our music director Jim Reinking pulled together some amazing local musicians and a friend from the theatre world Ward Fairburn sang lead. To cap all that off, we immersed the band in the amazing psycedelic lighting of Ken Roberts, making the whole show a trip through the doors of perception!
.So that rethinking I mentioned? Well, after the Elections (and a really really ugly night of computer drinking) I realized I needed to put some more better positive energy out in the world. I needed to keep on keeping on, not getting bitter, not building walls, but be a positive force in even some small way. So the first thing we committed to was raising a little money towards local causes and charities at every concert. At the Doors we passed the hat and raised $100 for Serenity Lane (seemed like a valid cause, cause you know, Jim Morrison, untimely death due to overuse of substances...) and want to continue to do that sort of thing for all our shows and concerts, but also add a new slice to the FAB pie: Concerts focused on raising money for charities. We klept this IMAGINE... and in a rush of gathering of forces created a new vehicle for fundraising and performing in a short one month time.
Well, I know a whole bunch of extremely talented individuals who all donated their time and talents and we put on a really fantastic show! We had singers, and actors and bands and dancers and just had a wonderful time and raised $1000 for FOOD FOR LANE COUNTY
Our plan moving forward is to do at least two IMAGINE... concerts a year, within our season of FAVORITE ALBUM BAND concerts and FAB Performance theatrical shows and concerts.
Coming soon we'll make some announcements about where we are headed and what we are doing in 2017! Join our email list, like us on Facebook and most importantly come to our events and stay FAB!
